THE HISTORY OF AHMEDABAD

Ahmedabad is located at the bank of Sabarmati River, this city was founded by ruler Karandev in 11th century and the city called as Karanavati this Hindu dynasty ruled for 400 years up till 1411 when Sultan Ahmed Shah conquered this place and renamed as Ahmedabad.
In 1818 British take over the city Ahmedabad by deceit. At this time municipality board and railway link was established. The British limited themselves till cantonment area and they didn’t even go out for city betterment.
They didn’t made any school, churches, clubs and colleges in the town like they did in different towns, as a result Ahmedabad is not an English speaking city by inception.
These days English language is not a problem for the city because they have developed the city while shaking hands with international trading hubs and almost everyone speaks English here,

You will find Hriday Kunj (Gandhi Ji Home) in Sabarmati Ashram, Kakasaheb kalelkar named it as Hriday Kunj where Gandhi Ji and Kasturba Gandhi lived here from 1918 to 1930.

2) AKSHARDHAM TEMPLE AHMEDABAD
This Temple is Situated in Gandhinagar which is 20 Km away from the main city of Ahmedabad, this temple belongs to Swaminarayan cult who believed in Sanathan Hinduism,
This is beautifully carved with pink sandstone structure which is surrounded with greenery and spread across 23 acre of land in Gandhinagar.
This construction is done according to Hindu Vaastu shastra, the main focus point of attraction in this temple is seven foot high Swaminarayan Murti which is made up of Gold leafed attracts the tourist at this place
This temple contain of seven carved beam, two hundred and ten single stone beam, and fifty seven window grills, twenty five roofs and eight zarokhas. Each beam is beautifully carved and no steel has been used in this entire construction and lot of fretwork has been done on stones
Every day after sunset there is light and sound show happens in the premises which shows different incidents about sanatan Hinduism, This show gives us brief knowledge about primitive texts, Vedas and purans.
Around the temple there is footpath constructed by three hundred and fifty six stone beams.

3) SWAMI NARAYAN TEMPLE AHMEDABAD
This is the first temple of Swaminarayan Sampraday constructed in 1822 during British period and this temple is fabricated by Anandanand Swami. It’s situated in kalupur area of Ahmedabad.
This temple is made by pure Burma teak wood the sculpture art is beautifully carved according to their design which is present in their scriptural norms.
This Mandir is believed to be a precious ethnic heritage in the socio religious history of Gujarat and India which shows the relation between British government.
Swaminarayan himself arranged lot of idols over here in the temple along with his personal use things are also displayed in the temple. The idols kept in the temple represents different religious lesson of their gods demonstrated through the carving of the temple

4) KANKARIA LAKE IN AHMEDABAD
The structure of the lake was initially started by Sultan Muizz ud-Din Muhammad Shah II and completed in 1451 during the time of Sultan Qutb-ud-Din Ahmed Shah II, Scholars says the original name of Kankaria lake is Hauj-e-Qutb
This lake has Nagina Wadi Palace in the center of the lake which has a tourist attraction. This lake has lot of activity center due to which traveler has come here,
like toy train aside the lake, Bal Vatika has a collection of outdoor toys for the children activities, due to great numbers of tourist visitors a Boat club has come here for the travelers engagement, A Zoo and natural history museum is also a tourist attraction here.
In night this Lake gives us a mesmerize look due to the light along with the lake and the fountain at Nagina Wadi makes it wonderful place for visitors.

5) JAMA (JUMMA) MASJID IN GUJARAT
This Masjid is one of the most popular and beautiful Mosque in India, it was constructed during Ahmed Shah I period in 1423 and it was meant for the personal usage of the ruler.
The mosque construction was done with yellow sandstone and has a big open area which is made of marble. It is enclosed by pillar passage and something written on pillars in Arabic language which is beautifully decorated on it.
There are two hundred and sixty pillars in Prayer auditorium which holds fifteen main domes at different heights. There were two shaking slender tower but unfortunately they lost their half of the height in 1819 earthquake but stills their lower portion is part of central portico.
The mosque central dome has some significance with Hindu and Jain religion, it is noticed that the central dome looks like a lotus more alike found in Jain temples beside
this there are some pillars which has an image of hanging bells generally which we found in Hindu temples. One more focused point is that there is a symbol of OM which is engraved on window of masjid.
These masjid is open for everyone but it is highly requested to maintain silence during prayer time. People can enter the masjid after covering their head but still women are not allowed to enter at main hall.
The tombs of Ahmed Shah, his son and grandson are on the west side of the masjid and queen burial along with other wives are nearby to their tombs.

6) SARDAR PATEL MUSEUM AHMEDABAD
This museum is located at the address of Moti Shahi Mahal Constructed by Mughal ruler Shahjahan in 1618 to 1622. When British take over this palace and start using it as government structure and became official residence of Gujarat Governor in 1960 to1978
which was named as Raj Bhavan. To give tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in 1980 a statue was built on the ground floor of the museum.
This museum has lot of things related to Sardar Patel life and it is well displayed here like newspaper cuttings, images, cartoons, paintings, personal ownership and other materials.
When you enter the museum you will find Sardar Patel sculpture at main entrance, on first floor there is one room which is totally devoted to Rabindranath Tagore where he used to stay in early age of seventeen,
he was so impressed with the mahal that motivated him to wrote a story called “The Hungry stones” there is a sculpture of Rabindranath Tagore along with it his life related things are also place here like writing, images, and paintings all well kept at first floor in his room

7) JHULTA MINARA IN AHMEDABAD
Jhulta Minara are the pair of two shaking pillar in Ahmedabad, these both minarets are differently located like one pillar is located opposite to Sarangpur Darwaja and the next one is near to kalupur railway station.
The pillar near to Sarangpur Darwaja is in the area of Sidi Bashir Mosque which was constructed in 1452 AD in leadership of Sidi Bashir, who was the slave of Sultan Ahmed Shah. The other pillar which was near to Kalupur railway station is bigger in height.
Although these minarets are not in well condition people says that the British engineer has disintegrated the pillar just to stop their curiosity of vibrating pillar.
British engineer tried a lot to figure out the cause of vibrating minarets but they were unable to do so, but were unable to assemble it back to its previous state, so these days tourist will not find any vibration or shaking minarets anymore.

8) THE ADALAJ STEPWELL
The Adalaj Stepwell is also known as Rudabai Stepwell, it is situated near to Ahmedabad city and in Gandhinagar region. This stepwell is a specimen of best architecture work done by India. This stepwell was constructed in1498 in memory of King Rana Vir Singh by his wife Rudadevi.

9) HUTHEESING JAIN TEMPLE AHMEDABAD
This is a tourist attraction which is made up by the contribution of close to ten lakhs offered by Gujarati businessman named Seth Hutheesing Kesarisinh, who died at the age of forty nine the construction was supervised and completed by his wife in 1848.
This temple is fully devoted to Lord Dharmanatha also known as the fifteenth Jain Tirthankara
This Temple is very near to Delhi Gate and temple has one mandapa column with a roof and it is totally hold by twelve attractive pole with amazing art on it. In temple main idol is kept on east and has fifty two more idols for other thirthankar
While entering the temple we find unlike manastambha (or Column of Honor) motivated by manastambha and Kirtiasthambha it has 79 ft height pillar look like the chitore tower in Rajasthan. The art in this tower is more look like Mughals time

10) SARKHEJ ROZA AHMEDABAD
This Roza compound has some different importance amongst other Roza, as it contains burial, mosque and palaces in its premises. Sarkhej Roza is also known for its history and admiration
This Roza is situated at Sarkhej area which is closed to 8 Km far away from the Ahmedabad main city. Once the famous French architect Le Corbusier came to India and stepped to Sarkhej Roza and compared it with Acropolis of Athens
The construction of this Roza was early started by Sultan Muhammad Shah and carry forward by Qutubuddin Ahmed Shah but if we talk about its completion then its final done by Mahmoud Begda.
In Fifteenth century this Complex went under expansion in the leadership of Mahmoud Begda and he constructed one palace and Sarkhej Lake in the complex, he did few more addition like Kiosk and small reserved mosque.
Once the visitor enter this complex they find impressive Bardari at the center of the open area. This magnificent structure has 9 domes which are supported by 16 Columns. This complex was damaged in 2001 due to earthquake and again assembled by the Archaeological survey of India.
This complex is more known by Acropolis of Ahmedabad, this complex consists tombs of Ahmed Khattu Ganj Baksh, Ruler Mohammad Begda and his queen
